ABSTRACT

It is nearly four years since a collision during a football, or soccer, match gave the author a Mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) which included concussion, post-concussion syndrome, vestibular migraines and brain bleed. She has been involved with a writing group set up for brain injury survivors by a local brain injury charity. The group is invited to participate in an event at the Tate Modern Exchange and life becomes a blur as the author works on a project to raise awareness of brain injury.

This exciting project comes just before the fourth anniversary of her brain injury and a period of reflection for the author. In the course of her neuro-rehabilitation she successfully completed therapeutic pathways with neuropsychology, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), vocational rehabilitation and vestibular physiotherapy clinics. Her vestibular migraines are nearly under control and her final clinic, neuro-otology, expect to discharge her in the next year. However, her employer’s insurance case is finally abandoned after months of neglect.

The author’s life changing injury continues to have life changing effects as she decides to leave her former career and try new ventures. The recovery from the brain injury has gone well, but there will always been limitations to be dealt with. Her focus now is to find happiness within the constraints of an acquired brain injury (ABI), and on continually testing her limits.
