ABSTRACT

It is clear, particularly in the depiction of the different fields in which archetype theory can be used, that it not only finds wide usage in the clinical field, but is also accepted in the cultural sciences and has even achieved a currency there. In the cultural sciences, in particular in literary studies and its most recent form, film theory, as well as in the areas of theology and religious studies, Carl Jung’s archetype theory has been even more strongly received than many Jungians are aware of. The overview of the research has shown that the classical concept of the transmission of archetypes as Jung and his direct students conceived of it is not tenable when considered alongside the most up-to-date knowledge in life sciences. In this sense archetype theory is an area for development.
