ABSTRACT

This chapter provides readers with information about the three philosophical sides discussed in the book, the Pratyabhijñā, the Buddhists—especially those belonging to the so-called ‘logical-epistemological school’, the Pramāṇavāda—and Bhartṛhari. This part aims to establish a historical framework for the ensuing discussion, insofar as it offers a basic summary of the epistemological and metaphysical positions of these thinkers.
