ABSTRACT

Instrument playing and sound exploration should begin to establish some sense of expressing moods and messages. A piano is a valuable and dramatic sound source, and only a small amount of preparation is required. Pitch compounds the overall musical complexity, thereby increasing the permutations between sound sources, timbre, pulse, dynamics, rhythm and volume. The walking beat/pulse used earlier can be viewed in a way which illustrates the important difference between pulse and rhythm. Dynamics have a strong bearing on the intensity of music. So dynamics are another factor within every sound source and piece previously experienced. There is a strong tendency for volume levels to gradually increase throughout music sessions. Sometimes it is useful to call everyone to a stop and pull back the general level of work noise; however, making music is intrinsically a noisy pursuit. Each new ingredient becomes an additional companion for making music - timbre, pulse and now volume.
