ABSTRACT

Thomas Churchyard (1520?-1604) is very much the survival of an earlier age – which is the tenor of Drayton's condemnation of him in the Epistle to Henry Reynolds, but even in old age he was receptive enough to fall under Spenser's influence. The interest of the two pieces below is only general, but more exact testimony to the extent of Spenser's reputation could scarcely be found than these words of an older poet overtaken by a younger.
