ABSTRACT

The stages of generic structures can be seen as having a textual aspect. One generic stage thus corresponds to a node at one level of the non-linear structure, together with the line leading to a node at the next-higher level. The line represents the relationship that obtains between the nodes – a tree, star, network, etc. – which is translated by the layout and position on the page of the navigation buttons. This chapter looks at some of the second translations of the ‘polyphonic music’ text from the point of view of generic structure. It compares some student translations of the ‘Art Deco watches’ text from the point of view of their generic structure. In terms of generic structure, the image–text combination expands the related navigation button.
