ABSTRACT

Writing is a strange activity. It is important to have a way worked out to begin one's writing; otherwise, washing the dishes becomes the most important thing on earth – anything that will divert one from writing. A good strategy for completing a large task, such as writing an extended essay or dissertation, is to break it down into smaller, manageable tasks. Writing is a skill that is closely linked to the kind of person we are. Most people are only capable of writing when they are reasonably alert. A writing session with short breaks every forty minutes or so will be far more productive than grinding on for several hours without a break at all. Striving after perfection in the early stages of any writing is counterproductive; it can block the flow completely.
