ABSTRACT
As a result of his cancer, the author's hospice patient had virtually no function in his left lung. A hospice nurse said that the lung was not moving air. His doctor prescribed some medications to help with his pain and breathing, as well as oxygen. However, the patient did not want to become dependent on the medications or the oxygen. The patient was a handyman, a jack-of-all-trades, and an entrepreneur. The patient lived much longer than his doctor thought that he would. The author visited him for about seven months. Each time he visited, the patient would tell him more stories about his home remedies or his savvy solutions for domestic, political, and financial problems. He could fix almost anything, but he could not fix his cancer.
