ABSTRACT

In all the research and readings about executive teams, much of the advice that is provided to executive teams is similar to that provided to other teams. Industry changes, technological changes, demographic shifts, and cultural shifts all have to be observed and taken into account when the executive team meets to make decisions. The executive team needs to have the opportunity to make decisions as a team, to be accountable to the rest of the organization for those decisions as a team, and to excel as a team. Executive teams need to be extraordinarily vigilant in terms of making sure that they do not fall prey to this problem. Regardless of the strategy adopted, almost all the respondents in our executive team study indicated that setting a clear strategy for the organization was job one for the executive team. The evidence is clear that the executive team plays an absolutely critical role in setting market strategy.
