ABSTRACT

Success in school is an indicator of overall well-being and is correlated with future success in the world of work. For children, educational achievement is linked with family characteristics and early childhood experiences. School success depends on experiences outside the home as well. Children who attend high-quality early education programs demonstrate positive gains in IQ, greater achievement in school, and higher rates of graduation. Restructuring in educational systems often highlights the importance of social networks for the success of children in schools. Social networks are vital for passing information, establishing trust among valued members of the network, and conducting knowledge from one member to another. Families play an important part in encouraging learning. Children learn what the value of education is from their parents, other adult relatives, and siblings.
