ABSTRACT

One of the outgrowths of the European Renaissance was the scientific revolution. Science and technology, which had more or less been at a standstill during the Middle Ages, made great gains once the restraints of religious dogmatism were loosened. Galileo, Copernicus, Kepler, Newton, Hooke, Descartes, and Boyle are just a few of the outstanding persons of that era who provided the scientific underpinnings upon which modern technology is based. Of course, once basic scientific principles were understood and disseminated, it did not take long for them to be applied for economic gain.
