ABSTRACT

Do our patients improve, do they get better, and if they do, is it causally related to the therapeutic process that we carry out? To put it simply, the issue is “does psychoanalytic therapy work”? My answer is “Yes, psychoanalytic therapy can be effective.” In this chapter, after considering the question of ongoing evaluations of effectiveness during the course of therapy, I present reports of several long-term follow-ups, which more or less speak for themselves.
