ABSTRACT

there are a lot of people in the United States military, but even more people work for Wal-Mart. These days, 1.3 million Americans, close to 1 percent of the country’s workforce, are employed by the behemoth. Globally, 2 million men and women—nearly one in every three thousand humans alive today—are directly employed by the company, with millions more dependent on the income brought in by these workers or by people working for companies that supply Wal-Mart with goods to sell.
