ABSTRACT

The differences in life style of families and their children in two cultures are obvious to an observer, and some fundamental differences in the stated aims of pre-school education in Kuwait and the United Kingdom (UK) were expected. However, an examination of the development of kindergarten education in Kuwait, suggests some parallels with the development of the nursery school in the UK The sample of UK nursery teachers had on the whole more experience in teaching under-fives, and the great majority of them are reported to have had training relevant to their work. The UK nursery teachers expressed on the whole greater interest in the theory and philosophy of education and in aesthetic education. The Department of Kindergarten Education felt the need for in-service training and organized such courses for all the newly appointed teachers in the 1970s.
