ABSTRACT

Ultimate happiness is something we enjoy when we achieve the good life. But what is the ‘good life’ ? Different religions and views of life propose a variety of ideals of the good life to which their adherents should aspire. Irrespective of whether or not we subscribe to any of these, the ideal to which in practice many of us aspire in life can be symbolized by two terms: to be ‘rich and famous’. In fact, all religions and views of life usually assume that being ‘rich and famous’ is in an important sense a necessary condition for ultimate happiness.
