ABSTRACT

Teachers are advised to read this chapter to become familiar with the concepts that the programme teaches and also in order to understand its approach. The programme focuses on positive living skills that will not only help pupils to be healthier and happier right now, but will also provide the knowledge and skills that they need for lifelong health. Throughout the programme two key concepts from positive psychology, flow and savouring, are emphasised as being essential strategies for encouraging children to recognise that there is so much more to life than how they look. It is important when talking about food and nutrition to children to keep the focus positive, rather than negative, critical or blaming. It is important to recognise when seeking to address the difficulties associated with food, faced by overweight children, that food in our society is about much more than nutrition. .
