ABSTRACT

Hostile-aggressives, complainers, silent types, whiners, backstabbers, gossips, stick-in-the-muds, and morale busters constitute only 10% of the work force but cause 90% of the problems. It’s no wonder that managers get frustrated at the thought of them. Unfortunately, problem employees are a part of every organization—there’s no escaping the troublemakers. Managers are often challenged to put employees’ mistakes behind them. Reduced productivity and losses that impact morale and profits are hard to forget. People who are constant irritants mean long-term problems for their organizations. Buckaneers often have the attitude that the organization is never right, the boss borders on incompetent, their friends work for better companies, management doesn’t appreciate them, and products or services are inferior. Troublesome employees can’t be managed like naughty children, even when they act like kids.
