ABSTRACT

“When ISO 14001 was first released, the only thing that exceeded the promise of regulatory relief was the promise of insurance benefits,” said Jeff Smoller, a key leader within the Multi-State Working Group on Environmental Management Systems. “And I think that both have proved elusive. And so I think right now you have ISO 14001, which is kind of in a critical part of its life cycle, where companies and others are basically saying, ‘Where’s the beef? or Where’s the relief? Where’s the rate relief?’ I think that is coming. And the answer for those who are asking (these questions) is to be patient.” 1
