ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to describe the type of structural shielding that is required for mobile fluoroscopic procedures and use image storage video disc recording to reduce patient exposure. It discusses the equipment provisions for mobile C-arm. With a mobile fluoroscope (C-arm) with manual exposure control, the operator shall monitor the x-ray tube current and potential at least once each day during use to ascertain that the x-ray tube is within normal range. The entire primary beam is intercepted by the image receptor. A written log shall be kept of all monitored readings and shall include at least the tube current and potential, the date, identification of the mobile C-arm, and the name of the person who did the monitoring. When the boost position, or the high-level control button, is provided on a mobile fluoroscope, it will increase the maximum x-ray exposure level.
