ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to discuss the four groups of individuals who may expose humans to radiation in California. X-ray supervisors and operators may expose human beings to x-radiation and supervise the activities of technologists or limited permittees only within the scope of their professional licenses. A current copy of the California Radiation Control Regulations and a copy of operating procedures applicable to working with x-ray machines and procedures must be posted or must be readily available to each x-ray operator under a supervisor’s jurisdiction. Since there are restrictions as to the scope of a certificate or permit, it is the supervisor’s responsibility to ascertain that no technologist work out-of-scope of their certificates or permits. The State Department of Health Services must be notified when individuals are exposed to radiation, for other than prescribed medical purposes, in excess of the limits set forth in the regulations.
