ABSTRACT

At its largest, the MSPCA–Angell had a network of three Angell Animal Medical Centers—in Boston, Western New England (Springfield), and Nantucket. But when the financial crisis of 2008 caused the country’s most severe recession since World War II, the MSPCA–Angell felt the hit. Economic strains forced significant reductions to staff throughout the organization. The animal welfare programs Living with Wildlife and Phinney’s Friends were reluctantly eliminated.
