ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents respeaking as one of many approaches to live subtitling or real-time transcription, and provides students with the necessary skills to respeak professionally. It looks ahead and focuses on what role respeakers will be playing in the future of live subtitling and real-time transcription. The new improvements in speech recognition technology and the use of more powerful computers may lead to shorter training periods, more refined acoustic and language models and better recognition, approaching the coveted 100% accuracy rate. A more long-term solution to solving the lack of synchrony of images, sound and subtitles is to establish a video delay that can allow respeakers to prepare their subtitles and launch them a few seconds later.
