ABSTRACT

This chapter guides the reader through some of the most important steps of the use of speech recognition (SR) technology. Often regarded as a minor issue, the microphone is an essential element in respeaking and overall in SR. The first step for a respeaker who wants to use a SR application is to create a user profile or voice model. The chapter describes some of the tools, more specifically those that can be particularly useful for respeakers to improve their user profiles and get them ready for the production of live subtitles. Respeakers try to pause briefly before punctuation marks so that they are displayed along with the utterance they modify. One of the most effective tools used by respeakers on a daily basis are the so-called macros, vocal shortcuts or customized commands created by the user to achieve a given intended effect.
