ABSTRACT

Once the respeakers have mastered the dictation skills and the use of the speech recognition software, or even as this is happening, it is time for them to start working on the skills that they will need to apply during the respeaking process. In respeaking, the risks of changing the meaning or producing flawed delivery if no monitoring is done also apply. Watching and typing are probably the most complex tasks in respeaking, which is why it is advisable to introduce them one by one and only after the listening + (re)speaking + monitoring has been mastered. Once students have managed to respeak watching what is on the screen as they listen, speak and monitor their own voices, it is time to move on to the last skill: typing. Most respeakers dictate punctuation marks to the software along with the rest of the original text.
