ABSTRACT
When the basic respeaking skills have been acquired or even as they are being acquired, students may want to turn their attention to the various genres at play in live subtitling on TV. Although as legislation becomes stricter, more and more programmes are being respoken, TV live subtitling has traditionally focused on four macro-genres: sports, news programmes, interviews/debates/chat shows and special events such as concerts, speeches, funerals, weddings, etc. The choice of sports as the genre to first test respeaking with may be explained by the fact that its content is less important than that of the news, considering that errors were bound to crop up, but also by the general belief that sports are the easiest genre to respeak. Very often, sports programmes feature debates and discussions involving fast turn-taking and overlapping dialogue.
