The first Idol the Devil advanc’d in the World was Belus, the Father of Ninus; and the Policy of Hell was very remarkable in this, for that Belus having been a just Prince, and well belov’d; the People were the easier deluded into the belief of his Deity, and were the sooner drawn in to idolize him whom they lov’d here, whose Name was so familiar to them, and whose Memory had obtain’d great Reverence among them.
