ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the antiquities of Satan’s history as far as to the blessed Christian Times; especially to the Coming of the Messiah, when one would think that the Devil could have nothing to do among us. It provides a farther description of Satan’s affairs and his more sublimated government, and his angelic capacities. The Devil is reduced to act upon mankind by stratagem only. It is also a great enquiry, whether the devil knows our thoughts or not. The devil therefore most certainly has a power and liberty of moving about in this world, after some manner or another. He ranges about every where, and he is with us, and sometimes in us, sees when he is not seen, hears when he is not heard, comes in without leave, and goes out without noise.
