ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the general drug use styles of the key characters and their friendship groups to give a sense of the drug use cultures that were going on as a part of the London rave club scene. It discusses the drugs use style of friendship networks of Joe, Andy, and Tom. As cocaine became more available, and with many more people taking it, people shifted from treating it as a special occasion drug and using it sparingly, to taking it on a regular basis. The greater popularity of cocaine was also reflected in nightclub drug sales. Where previously it had only been possible to purchase ecstasy tablets in nightclubs, cocaine was increasingly added to the list of drugs nightclub sellers had available. By and large the rave club drugs culture is referred to as a recreational drugs culture which people manage alongside their work and other lives, and whose drug use causes them little harm.
