      ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with drugs trading in London rave clubs and at dance parties. Corresponding with the high level of demand for ecstasy and other stimulant drugs from within the rave club culture, drug selling in nightclubs was commonplace, and because of the centrality of drugs to a night out, the success of a club night could depend on whether there was a supply on the premises. Drug supply in clubs took a range of forms. In some it was a highly organised operation and was tied into the nightclub management structure. In others it was more of a free-for-all and any number of commercial sellers could turn up to sell their wares. The growth in the rave drugs economy provided useful openings for those who had the motivation and necessary contacts to enter. The money people could make through drug selling compared to that they could make through regular work kept them tied to the role.
