ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses specifically on the way women were involved in drugs dealing within the rave club culture. There is limited literature referring to the role played by women in the buying and selling of drugs within the rave club culture. One exception is the work of Henderson. From her study of young female participants, she noted earlier understandings of women’s involvement didn’t fit the style of the rave club culture. Henderson states women were not being ‘frog marched into drug use by men and were not living unhappy lives as a result of their drug use'. Women assisted in club drug sales in ways which incorporated the more hidden, practical aspects of selling, and work of this nature played an important part in the success of a night’s selling. Women not only assisted in selling drugs within nightclub spaces, they also performed assisting roles in social network selling.
