ABSTRACT

Add. MS 4229, fols. 66–9. Endorsed at the top of fol. 66: ‘The Autograph of Robin Bacon, who was for many years Mr Boyle’s Amanuensis. H[enry] M[iles]’. Fols. 66–7 and 68–9 are both conjugate pairs of leaves, of which fols. 67 and 69 are wholly blank apart from the following endorsement on the verso of the former in Wotton’s hand: ‘Papers of Mr Boyles Life delivered by him to the Bishop of Sarum’. Apart from the endorsements noted above and the words in the text which are here italicised, which are in Wotton’s hand, the whole of the manuscript is in the hand of Bacon. Fol. 68 is more neatly presented than fol. 66, with no deletions, perhaps due to its having been recopied. See also above, pp. xxiii–>iv.
