ABSTRACT

Live Music Now is a national scheme for young musicians. Performers under 27 years of age (30 for singers) may audition. Exceptional performing and communication skills are required. Auditions are held throughout the year at several regional centres. Arts Council funding is always prioritised. The introduction of Local Management of Schools means that central pots of money are disappearing fast. Nevertheless, some central advisory services still exist. The policy of “Care in the Community” has put a great strain on Social Services funding. At the same time, it is recognised that the arts have an important role in personal development, and targetted funding does exist.
