ABSTRACT

When you filter ethics through an organization you are focused on the importance of building ethical champions throughout your company. You can begin with the PR people, marketers, and your communications department; look to the company leaders for role modeling behavior; and package the ethics and values through HR to penetrate the collective conscience through policies. With all three parts working, ethics will permeate every level and rank in your company, with your people who “walk” the “ethics talk.” You are moving from “we have core values” to “we are a company that believes, practices, and stands by our ethics, values, and good judgment.” Most importantly when the groups are working cohesively, ethics and values become more than words on a “page” and go beyond an online test to benchmark behavior with a score. Instead, they become the shared beliefs driving the collective conscience in an organization with ethical behavior, from employee minds to their hearts to the subsequent communications and interactions that ensue. In Chapter 5, the Q&A helps you to filter ethics, at every touchpoint, which means working diligently on your internal communication as a great starting point. After all, company employees are the gateway to your customers and other important stakeholders.
