ABSTRACT

In the interpersonal work stage, group leaders encourage the group members to be spontaneous and open in their conversations. When the group enters the interpersonal work stage, the group members and the group leader have met for nearly half the scheduled sessions. The group leader's role in the interpersonal work stage is to continue providing guidance and support as the group members develop their relationships. The group's main goal in the termination stage is to end the therapy positively and to manage the group separation constructively. With the guidance of the group leader, the group members in the termination stage voice their emotions and recall important experiences from the group's common history. The group leader can make the following point: "We started together, we worked together, we shared a lot together, and now we will end together." In this stage, the group may revisit various difficult events (for both leaders and members) from previous stages.
