ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author proposes that given the current social issues the U.S. is undergoing, particularly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, education could emerge as the North Star guiding the country’s much-needed socio-political change, particularly if education’s focus is redirected toward the development of the whole child, including nurturing the child’s spirit alongside the mind and body. The author proposes to do this through higher education, by redesigning teacher preparation programs, and offers examples of existing programs centered around nurturing the teacher’s soul so that, in turn, they can do the same for the children under their instruction and care.
