ABSTRACT

This chapter identifies the developmental struggles related to the diagnosis of cancer and the treatment protocol specifically for young adults. The unique challenges of this underserved population are presented. Backed in current research the following are discussed: identity formation, physical growth, emotional considerations and post-traumatic growth. The dynamic intervention of group is introduced. It provides the connection of why group can provide the best psychosocial support for young adults with cancer. It presents the developmental issues that can be an instrumental part of young adults healing through cancer. The issues are backed in current research to start the process of developing a group and or strengthening an existing one. These developmental considerations are the foundation of the creation of the group.
