ABSTRACT
There is no freedom for any citizen unless it is for all. Kurt Lewin went on to say that when African Americans move into a community property values rise or at least stay the same. It may come as a surprise to some, but most people have a sense of powerlessness at times even when they are at the top of families, organizations, and political structures, and could tap those experiences to better understand others if they had the awareness and desire to do so. It shows up not only in the minority experience, but in hierarchical relationships in organizations. Artificial limitations are placed upon them, restricting freedom of movement, of employment, and of participation in the common life. These limitations are given formal or informal expression in general or specific policies of separateness and segregation. White residents in integrated housing, despite initial forebodings, came to like living in them and many of them expressed pride in their building's 'democracy'.
