ABSTRACT

The authors reintroduce the multidisciplinary approach, referred to as the Shared Assessment Formulation and Education (SAFE), first set out in an earlier volume (Meaden & Hacker, 2010). This approach describes a multidisciplinary method, underpinned by cognitive-behavioural therapy and practice, embedded within a shared formulation framework and guided by need-adapted approach (Alanen, 1997). The research context from which this approach emerges is elaborated, and the needs of individuals affected by complex mental and behavioural difficulties are explained.
