ABSTRACT

Of key importance is that our approach is evidence-based. Monitoring outcomes and capturing change should be routine. Our service users are however not typically well represented in trials or other research of psychological interventions. It is also important to capture change that is personally meaningful and relevant to our service users.

We describe a variety of ways to measure outcome and capture change, including the use of standardised psychometric tools alongside more qualitative methods that harness the idiographic power of formulation. In particular, we illustrate the benefits of using the START to monitor changes at the service user and service level.
