ABSTRACT

Introducing our SAFE approach to teams and services requires a multilevel approach. Based on over 20 years of experience, we have adopted numerous methodologies to aid us in this process.

We begin with identifying what innovation barriers may currently exist. An assessment of the team is often helpful in terms of its aims; referral, selection and admission processes; programme planning and review systems; procedures for case coordination and recording of care; conducting of regular service reviews. Formulating the team itself is a useful next step before identifying opportunities for introducing SAFE or particular elements.

Not all services and teams will be receptive to SAFE. However, we propose that our different levels and types of formulation remain valuable and are greatly preferable to a single formulation approach. One size or type of formulation does not fit all.
