ABSTRACT

The assessment of risk in psychosis has mostly focused on understanding interpersonal violence and suicide. Risk assessment itself is an imprecise science but can nevertheless provide a powerful means for disentangling clinical problems. We focus on helping clinicians to ask the right questions to inform shared formulations. We describe our process of team risk assessment based upon Structured Clinical Judgment principles. Current research literature is examined alongside best clinical practice.

We describe in detail our approach to assessing multiple risks within a recovery framework and how we have integrated our formulation tools and models into risk assessment schemes. We pay particular attention to the START as our multidisciplinary tool of choice.
