ABSTRACT

The essays in this book are drawn from publications and conference papers that first appeared over a period of 25 years. These come from the author’s activity in architectural research, and the majority relate to his principal interest in the environmental dimension of architecture. These are supplemented by an introductory group that address questions regarding modern research in architecture, its nature and conduct and its history. The intention is that these essays add to the ongoing debate on the definition of architectural research and, in particular, the question of design as research.
