ABSTRACT
Guess what? YOU matter and you have worth – JUST BECAUSE YOU EXIST! This chapter focuses on the profoundness of the idea of self-worth and how important self-worth is for a good life. We explore the importance of teaching self-worth to young people and the life-changing impact of remembering that you have worth. There are many challenges to self-worth that we all face during the seasons of our lives. This chapter discusses the nature and prevalence of low self-worth and the impact of such on human psychology. Additionally, this chapter presents the positive benefits of intentionally cultivating self-worth and provides some strategies to help promote acceptance, compassion, and self-esteem. We also discuss the difference between self-worth and self-esteem and how they are related. The skills and techniques reviewed are informed by research in mindfulness-based cognitive therapies and other contextual therapies focused on self-compassion and they WORK!
