ABSTRACT

Good interpersonal skills can make all the difference in living a good life! Mastery of effective interpersonal skills takes intention, practice, and time. This chapter builds on Chapter 4 by diving deeper into the model of the interpersonal circle and exploring how knowledge about the interpersonal circle can improve awareness not only of your own interpersonal impact but also the impact of others upon you, thus allowing vastly improved insight and interpersonal functioning. The idea of interpersonal mindfulness is reviewed with an emphasis on how it is connected to the interpersonal circle. We also discuss the role of mindfulness and interpersonal mindfulness in emotional intelligence. Strategies to help set realistic and attainable interpersonal goals and work toward their achievement using the interpersonal circle are presented.
