ABSTRACT
There are few things more frustrating than setting goals that you cannot ever possibly meet, yet many people do this every day. Even worse than setting impossible goals is not setting any goals at all! Unclear or undefined goals can leave people aimless and vulnerable to influences from external forces. Lack of goals can leave people feeling out of control and feeling like a victim. In this chapter, we explore how, although there may be many things in your life that are of importance or concern to you, there are far fewer that you actually have any control over. Understanding what you can and cannot control is an important life skill! We explore the importance of setting realistic and attainable goals based on your values and provide some examples of real-life applications.
