ABSTRACT
The penultimate chapter analyses the ways Irish traditional musicians use technology during the lifelong process of musical enculturation. Over their lives, traditional musicians frequently engage with print materials, audio and video recordings, and online sources for learning purposes, communication, and enjoyment. While some view it as a private or solitary learning practice, this chapter details the use of technology as a socially situated practice – one which plays a significant role in the transmission of Irish traditional music.
