ABSTRACT

Singapore aspires to be an innovation-led economy. It is internationally recognised to be good at innovation input, but not yet as good in translating research output into innovation. The universities can contribute to this transformation. Improving the flow of the R&D results into the companies, helping start-ups to mature and “grow up” to medium-sized or larger companies, getting better at education and research in design, instilling a different culture for collaboration and innovation in the universities, and improving the linkage between STEM research and research in social sciences are some potential strategies to adopt.
