ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a summary of some of the phenomenology-related issues we have discussed in the previous chapters. It also details a guide (informed by the foundational literature of phenomenology) to help design a phenomenological study. In addition, it contains a decision tree developed to assist in determining an appropriate type of phenomenological perspective. This chapter addresses the following topics: clarifying the subject matter, justifying the subject matter, phenomenologically conceptualizing and framing the subject matter of experiences, choosing analytical and reflective procedures and determining the number of participants. At the end of the chapter, you will be prepared to design your phenomenological study, maintaining consistency across the components of the design and providing justification of your study using the foundational literature of phenomenology.
