ABSTRACT
It was another hot and humid afternoon. The monsoon rainy season had begun. People had changed to their summer clothes – lightweight suits, pastel-coloured sleeveless dresses, short-sleeved shirts and blouses, cotton underwear. A late-June afternoon in Fukuoka and it wouldn’t be comfortably cool again until the first typhoons in early September.
