ABSTRACT

The fine art photography art market is truly global in context as photography is a global medium. For collectors, artists, and others interested in learning more about the contemporary art market, these fairs are wonderful venues to get an overview of who is being represented by the world's leading galleries and the visual styles and concepts of their work. For a gallery or museum to be successful it needs to have a clearly defined identity and audience. Local galleries are great places for some artists to begin to build their resumes, and for others to establish a revenue stream while developing a long and successful career as a local or regional artist. A business has grown up around the idea of pop-up exhibitions, with some galleries renting their spaces on a short-term basis to artists and curators. Private or independent dealers provide an often-overlooked avenue into the fine art market for photographers.
